Mum's Monday: have your say

I have been commissioned to write a series of articles for a new magazine that recently launched. I will be producing twelve pieces over the next year. Here's the interesting part, my brief is to represent the voice of Mums and to provide them with inspiration. I am very interested in hearing from my readers who are Mums, and that includes grandmothers, with ideas about what they would like to read. I will be finalising my next six articles by the end of the week so don't delay, leave comments on what you would get you going. If the piece is likely to involve a case study or two then feel free to suggest people who I might contact who fit the bill. Thanks and I look forward to reading your ideas.

  1. Hey Kate!! How exciting.!
I am in the process of researching this very thing for my work!
One thing that I find common with a lot of the moms I work with is that they are sooo exhausted it's hard to remain calm and be effective.. does that make sense?
I hope that is an example of what you needed... let me know if you want more!
    Warmly,

  2. Something I've been ranting about recently is about the rules in place to "protect our children" or to protect schools etc from litigation, the effects these rules have on our childrens' civil liberties and how we're raising a generation of children who have not been equipped with the tools to adequately risk-assess situations outwith their norms. I'd be more than happy to help you with it if you wanted to do something along these lines? :)

  3. I would like to know what mums think about safety for their children. What do they stop them doing in order to keep them safe from strangers. How much leeway do they give their children i.e getting to friends houses, letting them out in town on their own, if small children - do they use buggie when they go shopping. I would be interested since I am quite a relaxed mum when it comes to these types of things.

  4. Hi Kate-
I've given you some suggestions but one of my newest struggles is dealing with establishing boundaries for my 19 month old. She's "TESTING" right now to see how far she can push and I don't know where to draw the line and how to deal with negative behaviour.

So great to find you through Judith's Room. Looking forward to learning more about these articles! ;)

  5. When the worst happens and you want a divorce, how hard it is to get proper legal advice unless you have a lot of money to pay for it. Everyone wants the best for the children, but the system is set up to force you to make accusations about your partner and there is no help for either partner to leave the marital home, leaving them in an often painful situation where they are forced to continue living together.

  6. Hi Kate,

What an interesting series that will be. I would be interested in ideas on finding a balance between being a mother and not losing yourself as a person. It's a continual theme through conversations with other mothers, I find. It's something I really struggle with - some days it all seems to work, others (like today) I get to the end of the day and realise I'd probably score 1/10 for parenting. I'd really enjoy hearing your take on it.

  7. Hi Kate, the dichotomy between mother and lover is a hard one, particularly for those of us married for a second time. It's so easy to feel like the meat in the sandwich - between keeping your man happy and your kids happy.
